90 YEARS OF MOTORBUSES IN LEICESTER

The LTHT would like to give thanks to First Leicester for today’s celebration of 90 years of Motorbus operation in Leicester. The first motor omnibus service was introduced on Thursday 24th July 1924 between Humberstone Gate and Evington Lane. Today two First Leicester buses painted in heritage livery along with two Vintage buses from the LTHT collection recreated this first route 90 years later. The buses then continued to the Leicester Racecourse in Oadby for a presentation and a buffet lunch.

The 90 year celebration will continue with a Heritage Bus Running day which will take place on 7th September at the Abbey Pumping Station Museum/Space Centre site. There will also be a open day at the First Leicester garage on the same day.

Below are some photos from the 24th July event.
