Leicester Transport Heritage Trust is a charity which aims to research, preserve and archive the history of transport across Leicester. We have a growing collection of local historic vehicles and a valuable archive of transport-related material documenting the evolution of Leicester’s unique transport story.

Alongside our preservation and archiving work, we hold regular Zoom and face to face meetings with guest presenters who offer a wide ranging insight into bygone transport. Our quarterly ‘Leicester Wheels‘ journal for members is eagerly anticipated too, when it hits the doormat!

LTHT rallies and open days showcase our historic vehicles to the public, allowing a nostalgic glimpse into the buses and coaches that once ruled the roads of Leicestershire.

Your donations are much appreciated and go towards restoring and preserving Leicester’s heritage vehicles for future generations.

Donate directly as a one off via PayPal.

Also, help the Trust with Easyfundraising. Easyfundraising is the UK’s biggest charity fundraising site; it’s simple to use and it’s totally free to you – just use it while you shop online and the retailer donates to the Trust. Over 7,000 brands have partnered to donate part of what is spent to a good cause at no extra cost.

Our Annual Bus Rally and Railcar Weekend

We had an amazing time at Quorn Station during our Bus Rally & Railcar Weekend.

Thanks to all the volunteers, supporters, vehicle owners, partners and visitors for making it a special weekend.

Look out for details of next year’s event, which will be announced soon!!

100 Years of Municipal Motorbuses

The Directors of Leicester Transport Heritage Trust are proud to announce that in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of municipal motor bus operation in Leicester, there will be a free event taking place from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday 27 July 2024 based both at the De Montfort Hall Grounds, Regent Road and the adjoining “Coach Drive” at Victoria Park where there will be a splendid display of between 10 and 15 specially invited ex-Leicester City Transport vintage buses which were once a common site around the city’s streets.

Members of the public will get the chance of free rides on many of these buses during the day with regular trips being made to and from the Old Stoneygate Tram Depot, London Road, where there will be free entry to view the many transport related exhibitions and display material.

A special souvenir brochure priced at £5 will be available from the Trust’s sales stand inside the tram depot. It is envisaged that the tram depot will close its doors at around 3 pm to allow staff and visitors to make their way back to De Montfort Hall to view a final procession of all the vehicles commencing at 4 pm to the racecourse roundabout and back.

The Trust is very grateful to officials of the Festival & Events Department within Leicester City Council for their help in staging this event across the two adjoining sites, to the many private owners who have agreed to bring along their buses and to all the Trust’s volunteers, all of whose assistance should make a memorable day for the people of Leicester and those who have travelled from further afield.
