Transport Trust Red Wheel

001 Stoneygate Tram depot has been awarded a Transport Trust ‘Red Wheel’ plaque in recognition of being a rare example of a District Car Tram Shed and an “Edwardian Gem”.

The Transport Trust is the only national charity established to promote and encourage the preservation and restoration of Britain’s unique transport heritage in all it’s forms – Road, Rail, Air and Water. The Red Wheel scheme highlights locations of engineering and transport importance through the years and nominations are evaluated for their importance, rarity, public awareness and access/”something to see”.

Sunday 15th May saw the visiting party of Transport Trust members along with LTHT director Mike Greenwood and Leicester Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby unveil the ‘Red Wheel’ plaque on the outer wall of the Tram depot.
